Building a home in middle Georgia on acreage purchased for retirement proved to be extremely difficult. In the wake of COVID, it was very hard in our area to secure necessary subs and materials at reasonable cost, and timelines were highly unpredictable. We therefore decided to search the Internet for a reasonable alternative and this is what led us to Zook Cabins. What at first seemed like a far fetched option became a serious possibility fairly quickly. Zook’s website was very helpful in the initial exploratory phase, and customer reviews, of which there are many, were about as positive as they could possibly be. We therefore decided to take things to the next level by contacting the company. This resulted in our becoming acquainted with Allan, a Zook Cabins representative. We spoke with Allan many times over the next few weeks, allowed us to become quite familiar with their process and product, and eventually comfortable enough (enthusiastic would be a better word) to commit to a house and start the design process. This was the start of what would become a deeply satisfying relationship, with Allan being there for us every step of the way to provide guidance, advice and quite a bit of education as we progressed through the design phases of our custom home. It took quite a bit of time, mainly due to change requests on our end, but these were always graciously accommodated and we never felt rushed or pressured in any way. In fact, as an added benefit, the extended timeline caused by our change requests allowed us to become acquainted with other members of the Zook family. This led to recognition that the professionalism, courteousness, empathy and integrity we had come to expect from Allan is actually a reflection of the overall Zook culture. Looking back, we truly feel that the “process” of building a home with Zook can justifiably be considered every bit as important as the home that the process is designed to create. Our impression based on months of experience and observation is that the building process at Zook Cabins is not at all mysterious. It simply mirrors the culture of the company as well as the personal values of the people themselves, including competence, integrity, care, humility and, in short, doing the right thing. Zook Cabins has grown to become a very successful company. We’re not at all surprised, especially given the marvelous quality of their houses. Our friends at Zook Cabins will always occupy a special place in our hearts. We recommend them highly.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
